10 Interesting Facts about Blood Donation
There are many interesting facts surrounding blood donation that you may be unaware of, so, we decided to compile a list of ten (10) interesting facts about blood donation. Here’s the list:
- Blood cannot be manufactured. It can only come as a gift from people like you
- The need for blood increases during holidays and summer months
- Smokers can also submit blood provided that they abstain from smoking one hour before and after donation
- Diabetics on insulin are advised not to donate blood
- Persons on aspirin, antibiotics, anti-hypertensive, steroids, hormones, anticoagulants, on inhalers cannot donate blood
- A good meal at least four hours before blood donation is recommended.
- Persons above 60 years and below 18 years cannot donate blood
- Every three seconds someone in the world needs blood
- One out of every 10 people entering a hospital needs blood
- Blood makes up about 7% of your body’s weight
